On my more hopeful days, I am amazed and thrilled by the silver lining to the clouds: a TRULY diverse group of people are coming together to stand up for medical freedom, and against the widespread harm that Emergency Measures and Covid mandates are having on society.

I started sending “political” e-mails recently, with the specific intention of sharing news about The People’s Convoy, the quiet and ongoing State of Emergency that I believe is a Really Big Problem for any remaining hope for democracy in the USA, and the associated and related Covid mandates.

There are many legitimate reasons to be cynical in this world, but I’ve decided to assume that my fellow Americans are generally really smart people. And for those of you who are very intelligent yet still “confused” about “What the truckers want,” I offer you this simple essay. My seven-year-old now understands the nuances, so please trust me, you can understand too! Lots of our politicians are in the dark, so this essay is also for them.
A lot of smart people have been writing a lot of interesting commentary concerning the Truckers’ Convoys, and I am finding inspiration in it. All these bits of reading I sneak in small doses through the day, until one of my children threatens to take my phone away since I’m setting a bad example of screen use. I’m just one person reading about dystopian Present Moments in between folding diapers and teaching piano lessons…but I appreciate knowing how many of us are out there (well, not specifically folding diapers, but Wishing to Actively Reject Dystopia).
Musings of a Heretical Feminist
After 2016, I asked a rhetorical question any time I engaged in just about any discussion about politics: “Why on earth would anyone in their right mind vote for Donald Trump, especially if they were female?!” I never expected anyone to answer, and I never paused to listen after I asked the question anyway.
I felt I was being witty. At the time, I also felt that Donald Trump was a crude, unintelligent, misogynistic, spoiled rich boy with racist tendencies.
When I try to answer my children’s questions, I am so furious that I can barely speak.
I choose my words slowly. “Many grownups around you have failed.”
Never have I wished so strongly to be wrong than when I remember predictions I made back in March of 2020. And instead, for two years and counting, we have collectively failed and keep failing at the primary goal of any society: protecting our children.
